Go see I Dream Too Much when it debuts on opening night at the Manhattan Film Festival on June 12th. Enjoying the I Dream Too Much SWSX Premiere We are so excited that this fantastic film, which we covered in a recent post, will now be screening in our area.  You might remember that we really enjoyed attending the premiere at SXSW in Austin in March, where we not only met the cast but also connected with screenwriter Katie Cokinos, producer Jay Thames and executive producer Rick Linklater (who also produced the Oscar-nominated feature Boyhood). Check Out I Dream Too Much: A Film for Women by Women

March 16, 2015

Check out I Dream Too Much, a film for women by women and the debut of the movie production company Pantheon of Women (POW).  I Dream Too Much, written by Houston writer Katie Cokinos and Executive Produced by Rick Linklater (Boyhood), will premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, today.  We are so excited to attend the initial screening! While we were living in Houston, we had the pleasure of meeting Alicia Goodrow, one of the founders of POW, through a mutual friend.  Local Houston, in fact, just honored Alicia Goodrow, along with her co-founders Donna Cole and Deborah Kainer, who together launched […]

Anticipating Chinese New Year in Chinatown #NYC

February 5, 2015

Anticipating Chinese New Year in Chinatown #NYC: Chinese New Year is approaching, and since our children are studying Mandarin, we thought a visit to Chinatown #NYC would be a great way to introduce them to some Chinese traditions and customs. Chinese New Year is also called the Spring Festival.  It is the most important festival in Chinese culture and the longest.  It starts on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month of the Chinese calendar, which runs differently than our Gregorian calendar, and it lasts for about 23 days.  It ends on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month […]

Holiday Vacation Movie Preview: “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb”

December 27, 2014

The Holiday Vacation Movie Previews made us fired up for the Christmas break. Attending as many movies as possible over the holiday vacation has always been a special multi-generational tradition in our family. Especially on Christmas day, when we are still enduring the food coma from the Seven Fish Christmas Eve dinner party (and yes Swedish Fish do count)! The swank Crosby Street Hotel in Soho   “NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: SECRET OF THE TOMB” So when “the Moms”, Denise Albert and Melissa Musen Gerstein, invited us to a screening of Night At the Museum: Secret of the Tomb at the […]

Fun Family Skiing at Mont Tremblant

December 9, 2014

Winter is here, and we’ve just kicked off our ski season with Fun Family Skiing at Mont Tremblant!  Tremblant is less than two hours by car from Montreal and nine hours from New York City, but the drive must rank as one of the most beautiful in North America.  We’ve noted that parks in Quebec are national parks, as opposed to provincial parks, which adds to the feeling that Quebec is a country within a country. The View From the Top of Mont Tremblant is Spectacular An Intrawest resort like one of our other favorite mountain resorts, Stratton, Mont […]

Saluting Our Heroes! Planes: Fire & Rescue

July 18, 2014

Saluting Our Heroes! Planes: Fire & Rescue presented us with a teachable moment as we asked our children to appreciate those who overcome great odds to keep us safe from fires and other weather disasters. Yet again Disney provides excellent family entertainment while emphasizing some important life lessons. Our children cheered with delight when they heard that Planes: Fire & Rescue, the new 3D computer-animated sequel to Planes, was dedicated to our brave American firefighters.  Dusty Crop Hopper, the voice of Dane Cook from the original Planes movie, decides he needs to help his hometown by becoming a firefighter to secure the certificate […]

Maleficent: An Extraordinary Message for Girls

May 30, 2014

“Maleficent was an action adventure and heart-warming story,” according to our daughter, whose favorite Disney princess has always been Sleeping Beauty or Aurora.  (Yes, she really did say that!)  We grown-ups have always gotten a thrill out of seeing Angelina Jolie famously kick butt in her action movies like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider or Wanted, but we know that they can also be a little violent. We therefore had a little trepidation when Disney graciously invited us to the advance screening of their new PG-rated Maleficent, a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty tale, starring Angelina Jolie.  Our daughter was begging to see it, though, so […]
