The big tree just missed our house in Westchester County, NY   We all know that social media ranks high as a key marketing support tool, but the crisis of #Hurricane Sandy reveals how much Social Media can help our communities emotionally. Our son chose John Cena as his story book hero for his anti-bullying efforts

Last Friday, our ten-year old son dressed up as John Cena in the local elementary school’s story book parade. The teachers asked each child to dress up like a hero from his or her favorite book and carry the book in the school’s annual costume parade. From the photo above, you can see that our son proudly carried  “the Ultimate Guide to WWE”. Like the Velveteen Rabbit, you can tell this book is truly loved from its ragged ear edges. Our Son has read the book from cover to cover millions of times memorizing the fun details about his favorite stars. […]

Twitter’s Research Wars now begin..

Mashable reported a very insightful study this past week in the article “Sorry Marketers Your doing Twitter Wrong…”  starting “the Twitter Research” wars (click on the link to download the study) just like the Facebook Research wars of a few weeks ago when studies found completely difference results on the viability of “the Godfather” of Social Media. Building upon yesterday’s blog about more women watching professional sports than ever before, another interesting sport that we find our female friends watching is the World Wrestling Enterprises (WWE).  They love watching the sport with their tween and teen boys. These women realize that the WWE provides family friendly PG entertainment while also presenting great opportunities to bond with their boys. You can catch the sport twice a week with Friday Night SmackDown and Monday Night Raw. A study in the Guardian in February proved that emailing and tweeting are more addictive than smoking and alcohol. The media responses release endorphins in the brain. That is why teens will often stay up all night texting and investment bankers trade till the wee hours. In fact, “the London whale” moved the stock market the wrong way contributing to over a Billion loss that JP Morgan in some serious hot water last week. Old Birds sell Mac &Cheese to moms via twitter?

Kraft ran an interesting social media campaign last week honoring Mac & Cheese’s 75th anniversary.  The Company handed over the Twitter and Facebook pages for the brand for a couple of days to two humorously out-of-it octogenarians—Frankie, 87, and Dottie, 86. We liked the “plank tweet”  (“just learned about planking. anybody know what it means?”) and observed lots of positive buzz on Twitter. Frankie & Dottie even tried to tweet Betty White. The campaign’s humor and nostalgia created some excitement, but we would love to learn if it resonated with Moms, key target consumers.
