If you have a daughter between the ages of 4-12, American Girl Place will be a precious family time that she will remember her whole life. American Girl Place has locations in many major cities like Chicago and Atlanta but our favorite so far is the one on 5th Ave in NYC. The store can entertain your daughter for hours so plan at least four hours for shopping, lunch at the Cafe and a visit to the hair salon or doll hospital. Your favorite girl can even pose for a picture at the Photo Studio and take home a souvenir issue of American Girl® magazine with her face on the cover.
An easy walk from Grand Central Station and Penn Station at 49th and 5th
The Dolls:
Each doll has a unique story with many playing roles in key parts of our American history like Kit during the Great Depression. You must be sure to plan for time to view all of the displays on each floor since they give the history of each doll. The displays also feature the life lessons that each doll’s story can teach your daughter. After studying the displays, your daughter can explore outfits, accessories, and furniture that help make every doll’s world complete.
Next, you can have your daughter browse the bookstore with titles that will open up her imagination. Friends rave about the American Girl Book “The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Girls”. We have the book at the ready when our daughter reaches the right age. Not only can you buy a doll with a history of helpful life lessons, but also you can buy a doll that your daughter designs to look like herself (her very own mini-me).
American Girl Cafe:
Special Time with Daddy
Be sure to register online or by phone toll-free 877-247-5223 as many months in advance as you can. You want to arrive ten minutes before the seating to secure your table number. Then, the staff has you wait in the adorable bitty baby section. Luckily, your place in line has nothing to do with your seating location. The dining room is designed so that all tables are a good location.
The cheerful staff dressed in pink will escort you to your table after inquiring about the type of seating you would like for your daughter’s American Girl Doll. Each doll gets a special pink chair that hooks on the table. Since the lunch is a prix fixe of $24 ($37 for birthday packages), your waitress will bring an appetizer tray of veggies and dip, grapes, mini chicken salad tarts and pretzel bites. For beverages, your daughter can choose from pink lemonade, milk, hot chocolate or an assortment of party drinks at an additional charge. For the main course, the menu features a variety of kid friendly food such as macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers and pizza. Healthy salad and sandwich choices are offered for mom and dad.

The Girls Enjoy the Pretzel Bites
The best course is the dessert which is a stunning display of a fruit kabob, chocolate mousse and a pink heart cake. We recommend asking for a candle to make a birthday celebration complete. The birthday package cake is huge and do you really want to carry the left overs around the crowded store and city streets?

The Hair Salon & Doll Hospital:
As a special treat, make an appointment to have your daughter’s doll’s hair done. The stylists are very attentive and do an excellent job entertaining your daughter. Prices starts at around $40 and up. If your daughter’s doll has a boo-boo you can check her into the Doll Hospital where you can see sweet little beds displayed to take care of her precious baby.

In addition, to providing hours of family fun, American Girl Place also emphasizes building confidence in our daughters. On each floor, different positive messages adorn the walls.
