iOS 7 & Spilling on Our Lap Top! What a week for Tech! The web was abuzz with Apple’s unveiling of two new iPhones and iOS 7.
While we have both Android and iPhones, we think it is super cool that Apple introduced a phone that is more affordable across the world. However, we are waiting a few weeks before we jump on the new innovations. We like to be early adopters, but we realize Apple may need more time to work out the bugs. If you an iPhone fanatic, the $100 more for the 5s might be worth it with the improved processor and camera. However, those saving to send the kids to college, can have something to look forward to with phone’s next upgrade.
We are waiting on the iOS 7 upgrade for two key reasons: 1) our son decided to update all our Apps at our daughter’s soccer game and consequently used up our data allocation for the month and 2) we are monitoring the comments of key tech thought leaders on social media about the Apple innovations. The Huffington Post headlined that the iOS 7 download caused campus WIFI issues around the nation from Ohio University to NYU. Mashable boasted how comments on the new operating system focused on the negative.
Should We Upgrade Our iPhone 4 to iOS 7?
Many of our friends accidentally downloaded the upgrade without much thought when they received the update notice. Most do not like the radical icon redesign and color changes. The new colors for texting can be hard to see for the 40+ crowd.
But in the middle of our analysis of when to download the new iOS7, we spilled herbal tea on our laptop. Immediately, we ran to the Apple store who had staffed up for the opening sale of the iPhone 5. The Genius Bar Team had us with a tech in seconds flat. The tech took a quick look at the laptop and said it would cost $800 to repair the $1200 Mac Book Air. But would you believe that to stop us from having cardiac arrest, the tech refereed us to the Computer Super Center in Greenwich CT on Mason street.
Always protect your laptop from spills
The Computer Super Center took amazing care of us. We paid extra to expedite the process and it was worth every cent. The Computer Super Center called us within an hour with the good news that our hard drive had not been damaged. What a sigh of relief! We so appreciated how the Apple team referred us to a company who cut the price and the time for the repair in a third. We highly recommend the Computer Super Center and as brand marketers we must point out how this is a wonderful case study of how brands can take of their customers and create long-term loyalty.
So when we get our laptop back tomorrow, we will continue to monitor the comments on iOS7 before we download. Lessons from iOS7 and spilling on our laptop last week reminded us how important it is to take your time with change so you can avoid costly mistakes.
Any happy-ending tech lessons to tell? When will you download iOS7? Let us know because we love to learn.

Sorry about your laptop but glad you didn’t have to buy a new one. As for iOS7, I’m watching as well. The first adopters can sort out the bugs so I know what to expect. However, I probably will be switching to an Android phone in the near future. Even with all the i5 buzz, I’ve been contemplating this move for a while and felt underwhelmed with the release of the new phones.
Chris, Thanks so much for the great comment. Keep us posted on what you decide as we love to learn!
