One of my favorite reminders comes from Emily Dickinson, who wrote: “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all.” Isn’t that beautiful? Hope is constant. It doesn’t demand—it just quietly sings inside of us, waiting for us to listen.

Studies published in journals like Psychological Science and the Journal of Health Psychology show that people with strong faith or spiritual practices often report lower levels of stress, greater resilience, and even improved physical health. Neuroscientists have found that prayer and meditation can literally rewire the brain, strengthening the areas linked to compassion, optimism, and emotional regulation. In other words, faith doesn’t just comfort the soul—it can boost our well-being in measurable ways.
Given all that’s happening in our crazy world, it’s so easy to slip into doomscrolling, headlines, and endless worry. But here’s the truth: hope is a choice. And faith—faith in God, faith in goodness, faith in something larger than ourselves—is what keeps that hope alive. It’s not about ignoring what’s wrong; it’s about believing that love, grace, and kindness will have the last word.
