Donating to favorite causes always comes to mind as the year draws to a close.
Every year, in fact, the last few weeks on the calendar turn out to be some of the biggest giving days. So we wanted to highlight three of our favorite charitable causes.
One of our favorite worthwhile causes is Bread of Life, a Branch of Giving Tree Global. Bread of Life is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation based in Rye, New York, that focuses on feeding the hungry in our area. The charity meets the urgent supply needs of food pantries, shelters and soup kitchens throughout southern Westchester County, helping to feed over 11,000 clients each week. The team partners with local businesses, churches and government agencies to unite supply and demand. Bread of Life receives its food donations from various sources, but one unique source is gifts of excess food from local businesses, food that would otherwise be discarded as waste. In fact, Bread of Life is the only food rescue organization committed to serving the Westchester community with its own food pantry.
Bread of Life’s beneficiaries are physically hungry, but they are also in great need of assurance that their lives are important. Accordingly, this not-for-profit does not simply bring food to the hungry, but it also provides emotional and spiritual support.
One of Bread of Life’s founding members, Chris Karpovich, a local high school senior, created a video on his volunteer service with this worthwhile cause to help the charity win a $1 Million Super Service Challenge grant. His compelling video emphasizes how Bread of Life creates a community of committed volunteers, changes lives, restores hope and impacts hunger.

Another favorite cause is The Rye Arts Center. A leader in New York in STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math), The Rye Arts Center is a community-based, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to inspire interest and maximum participation in the arts in Westchester and the surrounding region. The RAC is committed to offering programs that are characterized by artistic tradition, educational value and a spirit of innovation.
As a member of RAC’s Board, we are honored to be part of an important cause that truly makes a difference in our community. Since The Rye Arts Center‘s donations are currently being matched, we have to make a plug for support, as every dollar counts.
Here are some recent initiatives that were made possible through donors like you:
- Building a 3D Printing MakerSpace
- Renovating the children’s art studio
- Rebooting the High School Arts Council
- Expanding the Head Start Program Partnership
- Free Dance for Parkinson’s classes
- Launching Art on the Lawn in Rye

Our final favorite cause is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This incredible cause is focused on curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
LLS was founded to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. In fact, LLS is changing the landscape of cancer with more than 300 active research projects that explore different avenues of new and adventurous research, which promises to save lives not someday, but today.
