Hey hey rockstars!
Today, I want to celebrate someone who seems to have made it her life’s mission to spread a little more kindness, a little more joy, and a whole lot more sparkle wherever she goes.
I’m talking about the one and only Dolly Parton.
Dolly is extraordinary not simply because she’s a legendary singer, songwriter, entertainer, and storyteller. She’s extraordinary because she has managed to turn success into something bigger than herself.
She gives.
She encourages.
She makes people feel welcome.
And she never seems to have forgotten where she came from.
And that brings us to a very happy place indeed: Dollywood.
Nestled in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, Dollywood is so much more than an amusement park. It’s an expression of Dolly herself — music, family, Appalachian heritage, food, laughter, beautiful scenery, and plenty of opportunities to have a ridiculously good time.
And I love the idea behind that.
Because happiness doesn’t always have to be complicated.
Sometimes happiness is riding a roller coaster and screaming your head off.
Sometimes it’s listening to a great song.
Sometimes it’s eating something delicious.
Sometimes it’s standing in a beautiful place and realizing, “Wow. I’m really lucky to be here.”
And sometimes happiness is simply being around someone who makes you feel better about being yourself.
That’s one of the things I find so wonderful about Dolly Parton.
She has never presented happiness as pretending that life is perfect. Instead, she’s built a life around resilience, humor, creativity, generosity, and hope.
And perhaps that’s today’s little reminder for all of us:
You don’t have to be famous to make the world a happier place.
You can encourage somebody.
You can make somebody laugh.
You can tell someone you believe in them.
You can share what you have.
You can create something beautiful.
You can simply be the person who brings a little sunshine into somebody else’s day.
Dolly Parton has spent decades doing exactly that — and Dollywood feels like a giant, colorful reminder that joy is worth building.
So today, channel a little Dolly.
Put on the music.
Wear the sparkly thing.
Laugh loudly.
Be generous with compliments.
And if somebody needs a little encouragement, give it to them.
Because, as Dolly’s life so beautifully demonstrates, you never know how far a little kindness can travel.
And even go to the US Open to celebrate her!
And that is today’s Daily Happy.
