During the holiday season, an important tradition is teaching our children to remember those who are less fortunate. A compelling cause where we can truly make a difference is by sending aid to Philippines Typhoon victims. Every donation, no matter the size, can help because one US dollar equals 43-50 pesos which equates to a meal for one person.
Tyhoon Haiyan destroyed cities, farming areas — people’s homes and livelihood literally disappeared in one fell swoop. Infrastructure was demolished by winds that maxed up to roughly 225mph — stronger than Sandy and Katrina combined. Not only are millions of people homeless, but they are also living in very unsanitary conditions — with no food, water, electricity. They have no roof over their heads and are exposed to the elements. For Filipinos, it will be a very dark and dismal holiday season. But, we can help make their holidays brighter by supporting aid for Philippines Typhoon victims led by an extraordinary woman.

An extraordinary woman raised in Philippines, Lizza Reyes Clark, is providing an incredible opportunity to get our children, friends and family involved both locally and around the world! She has banded with churches and schools locally in both NY and the Philippines to provide creative ways to help those suffering from Typhoon Haiyan (also known as Typhoon Yolanda).
Locally in Rye, NY, the team is working to organize elementary schools, the middle school and the high school to hold a fundraising campaign the week after Thanksgiving. On Tuesday, December 3, a group of fifth graders from the Midland Elementary School will kick off the effort by selling T-shirts after dismissal to raise awareness about the devastation and raise funds to help those affected. The T-shirts will sell for $15 each. All proceeds will go the Philippines Typhoon victims for immediate needs like food, medical supplies, water, clothing and to help displaced people rebuild their lives.
