Our children are really looking forward to the Family Fun to celebrate NY/NJ Super Bowl XLVIII . Last year, we seriously enjoyed all the family events at the Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans. So if you don’t want to spend $2,500 for a seat for your child to only sit for 20 minutes, here are some family fun ideas pre-game:

The NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee kicks off many exciting events on Wednesday, January 29th through Saturday, February 1st from the Super Bowl Boulevard on Broadway between 35th and 47th street to Pepsi Pep City in Bryant park to the VH1 Super Bowl Blitz concerts around the five Boroughs and New Jersey. The Boulevard is the epicenter for NFL fans during Super Bowl XLVIII celebrating all things football. To register for a FREE Super Bowl Boulevard Engineered by GMC badge, click here. Registering online will allow you to pick-up your badge at Super Bowl Boulevard where you can:
- Take a photo with the Vince Lombardi Trophy
- Receive FREE autographs from NFL players 12PM – 5PM daily
- Kick a field goal through NFL uprights
- Ride the toboggan Run ($5 per ride donated to MillionTreesNYC)
- Check out the Super Bowl Virtual Theater every night at 5:30pm on the storefront of Macy’s in Herald Square (34th Street & Broadway)
- Experience the “Join the Huddle” and Play 60 athletic events for kids at 35th and 36th street
- Enjoy nightly concerts: at 8PM, the stage comes alive with some of the best talent New York has to offer. Wednesday night – Bacon Brothers; Thursday night – Michael Cavenaugh; Friday night – Café Wha? Band; and Saturday night – Blondie
Pepsi #PepCity : The enclosed event will span 10,000 square feet in midtown Manhattan’s Bryant Park, and include an 80 foot wide by 40 foot high custom-designed dome that will house numerous stages and a rotating continuum of diverse performances that celebrate the heart and soul of the city. Also open to starting January 29th from 2 PM to 6:30 PM #PEPCITY will offer complimentary tastings by metro area chefs: David Burke of Townhouse, Kitchen, Fishtail, and Fromagerie; Marc Forgione of Marc Forgione; and Michael Psilakis of FISHTAG, Kefi,and MP Taverna. Unfortunately, the free evening concerts featuring Austin Mahone, Prince Royce and Ziggy Marley are sold out. Please don’t tell our daughter that we missed the boat!

The Super Bowl XLVIII Guide features valuable resources including a map, an event schedule, social media updates and live streaming of Verizon’s Empire State Building light show as well as Super Bowl XLVIII. Social Good:
Every year, the Super Bowl supports local economic development and social good. Giving back to our community is such an important lesson to teach our children and it is so helpful to have famous athletes as examples. This year the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee managed by the amazing Al Kelly, CEO, launched many community-minded campaigns, including the establishment of the NY/NJ Snowflake Youth Foundation, The Super Community Coat Drive, the Super Community Blood Drive and the groundbreaking “Join the Huddle” Tour. The Snowflake Youth foundation has raised and distributed millions of dollars to rebuild and revitalize more than 50 after school facilities for local youth while the Super Community Coat drive combined efforts of both New York Cares and Jersey cares to gather more than 100,000 coats for those in need. You may have seen the blood drive advertising on TV. While the efforts are now complete, the project collected over a quarter of a million pints of blood to benefit area hospitals.

Our favorite cause of the NY/NJ Super Bowl XLVIII is the Snowflake Youth Foundation. Our children were so impressed by how the Foundation is focused on repairing facilities destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Anytime before or during the game, you can text “SNOWFLAKE” to 50555 to make a $10 donation to help support the Snowflake Youth Foundation. Why not have your children split the donation with you?
And let’s not forget the NFL’s goal to help the small business community via the “Super Bowl Host Committee Business Connect” programming where local businesses applied to be chosen as key vendors for everything from pizza delivery to flowers. “Keeping it local” is great for our economy as well as our carbon footprint. There will be only one winner of the Super Bowl XLVIII, but thousands across the New York and New Jersey area will be winners off the field for years to come!
