We recently discovered an innovative math app for kids: Math Arrow created by Economist and Educator Todd Buchholz.

Our country’s future competitive advantage will be based upon our ability to innovate in math, science and technology.  To this end, our educators have increased focus in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) especially at the elementary schools level. So it is never too early to make math enrichment interesting and entertaining. We are so thankful that so many educational and affordable math apps have been created by so many talented developers.

Designed with his daughters by Todd Buchholz,  winner of Harvard’s annual teaching prize in economics, the patent pending Math Arrow can be used by preschool to middle school students. Some of the key benefits of the app are:

  • Kids learn how to add and subtract by 2s, 5s, 10s, and other numbers by guiding Kyle and Kira the Kangaroo around the Math Arrow
  • The Kyle Counts and Kira Counting Game use the revolutionary Math Arrow so kids can visualize number patterns and develop number sense (a big part of the Common Core)
  • A controlled test by Brigham Young University researchers found that first-graders raise their math scores by 8% after playing Kyle Counts for ten minutes a day for a week
  • The Kyle Counts and Kira Counting Game were the only math app recommended in a recent feature article in the Economist magazine, and the Math Arrow was highlighted by the Mathematical Association of America. In fact, just this week , Kyle Counts was named App of the week by eschoolnews!
  • Teachers and parents can download a free guide to the Math Arrow at www.sproglit.com
  • Parents can download the Math Arrow poster at www.sproglit.com to help their children get excited

The app is $4.99 on iOS for iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded from the app store here: Math Arrow. Our 8 year old daughter and 11 year old son both enjoy the challenges of the app.  Thanks to Todd Buchholz  for the innovative math app for kids: Math Arrow.
