Our son practicing in the @WWE wrestling cell like John Cena

Our sons notice that @WWE Superstar John Cena is everywhere. This month he hosted the Saturday Morning CW Vortex, battled during Saturday Slam, directed the holiday card  and appeared on Late night with Jimmy Fallon to promote Tribute to the Troops (Dec 22nd on USA network).

Our sons feel that John Cena is their role model because he fights back against bullying (be A STAR), donates to the Make A Wish Foundation and even promotes breast cancer awareness. Both of our sons have had friends whose mothers fought breast cancer so they were very impressed when John Cena helped @WWE to raise over $1MM for the Susan G Komen Foundation.

Our boys glued themselves to the TV when the @WWE Superstar hosted the CW Vortex on December 8th during the 2 hour block dubbed Cena Saturday. The boys enjoyed watching him face-off in the ring against WWE Superstar Heath Slater. Most of all, they really liked getting to know him better through the amazing extra features about his life. Our tween kept watching the below promotion video over and over on Youtube.

Of course,  our son’s Christmas list is filled with John Cena items. We bought one gift early—#WWE13, the latest video game which is filled with John Cena.  Our tween loves many of the game’s new features and raves about the following improvements:

  • The graphics are better
  • The cast now includes all the current @WWE Superstars
  • The replays after the finishers are a great addition
  • The Cell now allows you to climb on top and smash around
  • You can create your own signature move

While ideally we all wish our children would not play video games, this type of amusement has become widespread in our culture. So we as parents must insert ourselves into the entertainment by playing with our children and discussing the appropriate levels of violence and behavior.  John Cena as a role model provides the perfect opportunity for these types of discussions. We so appreciate the important teaching moments provided by @WWE to stress the importance of helping others and being good citizens especially during the holidays.

All the best to you and yours!
