Reliving our childhood with the MOMs’ screening of Legends of Obecame the highlight of our week. When friends Denise Albert and Melissa Musen Gerstein, media professionals who run the MOMs, a social media marketing agency, invited us to bring our daughter to the viewing party of Legends of Oz: Dorothy Returns, we jumped at the chance.

As a little girl, I devoured every novel that L. Frank Baum wrote about Oz and now our children are doing the same. Over the last year, we have watched the original Wizard of Oz many times since our daughter is finally old enough to not be scared by the wicked witch and the winged monkeys.  For a while, our daughter was obsessed with the ruby slippers. Doesn’t every little girl (and every big girl, for that matter)  need a pair of beautiful red shoes? We are having so much fun reliving our childhood through our daughter’s eyes.

When we arrived at the  screening of the film, we found to our delight that our favorite New York City cupcake shop, Baked By Melissa, provided delicious mini samples.  What could be more delectable than eating cupcakes with your daughter while wearing 3D glasses?

Wearing 3D Glasses While Watching Legends Of Oz

Loosely based upon Dorothy of Oz, the 3D computer-animated film Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return opens this week.  It stars Lea Michele as Dorothy, with Dan Aykroyd as the Scarecrow, Jim Belushi as the Cowardly Lion, and Kelsey Grammer as the Tin Man.  Bernadette Peters is Glinda, and Megan Hilty is the China Princess.  We can’t give away plot details, but suffice it to say that our daughter had a fabulous time!  The joy and the sparkle in in her eyes brought back so many happy childhood memories.

After the screening, Melissa Musen Gerstein  held a special question-and-answer session with Megan Hilty. Many of us know her from Wicked on Broadway and as the star of Smash. Megan shared the exciting news that she will soon be a first time mom.
