April 20, 2013—Happy Earth Day!  Rye, NY the town of the first plastic bag ban in Westchester County New York is holding a family friendly celebration this weekend. From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (Rain date April 21) close to a dozen local organizations will provide fun activities designed to promote awareness of and showcase the natural beauty found in Rye’s waterfront community.

The Rye Arts Center is taking the lead in organizing the Rye Rocks Earth Day umbrella campaign, which features an emphasis on the “art” in Earth.  Helen Gates, Executive Director, explains: “I was inspired by a quote that says, “The earth without art is just eh.’  I believe that if we start to view the Earth and sustainability through the lens of nature’s beauty, we will begin to protect “Nature’s Art” — just as we would a piece of art hanging on a wall in our home.”

The Village green will feature live music by Found the Time: 10:30-12:30 and Sal Casabianca: 1:00-3:00. City Committees such as the Rye Sustainability team will have tables and be ready to provide helpful everyday earth day tips. Led by the amazing Sara Goddard, the Sustainability team is also working on a plan for Rye. Can’t wait to see the results!

All events are free and open to the public. Be sure to check out the events at the following organizations:
