March Madness App Is Easy For Moms

Who says March Madness is just for guys! This year March Madness features easy, fun and free apps that Moms will love too. Since many of us have boys, we spend a tremendous amount of time talking sports. We often study the latest statistics so we can actually have a conversation with our teenagers. Also, tracking the Final Four really impresses the hubby even more than clean laundry or a great home cooked meal. Of course, once our boys start discussing the college player names specifically our eyes do glaze over.

So now Moms can track the winners of each round while driving carpool and surprise their children with their sports expertise at pickup. “Can you believe that amazing three pointer?” Moreover, now they have a stimulating conversation topic for family dinner hour. We had a blast filling out our brackets with the kids over a meal. We all picked Notre Dame and Georgetown over two sets of brackets since we have a new Pope and the Catholic Church needs some good luck.

We just love the ESPN Bracket Bound App free for both Android and iPhone. You create multiple bracket versions and track them against different groups, celebrities and even have a chance to win fabulous prizes. Within the App you can watch a live bracket; preview team post play videos; and play the fantasy brackets (too much for us). In addition, a direct link to ESPN to watch the live game is only a click away but you have to link it with your cable provider cause the glory days of watching the Tourney for free are over.

The only downside of the App is it is very easy to click on the Acura and other sponsor ads and lose your game day concentration. We would love to analyze how the mobile ads fit with the Advertising Extravanganza. According to a new report from Kantar Media, March Madness last year scored more ad dollars for CBS and Turner Sports than the respective playoffs and championship series for the National Football League, National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball and National Hockey League.  Per Adweek, CBS/Turner’s live March Madness coverage attracted 85 unique advertisers. Nearly every major auto manufacturer was represented in the 2012 tourney, a roster that included Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Mercedes, Nissan and Volkswagen. Ads averaged over $1.3 million which is quite a bit less than Super Bowl spots.

But if you are a mom who just loves sports in general like us be sure to check out the free “iPhone and iPad only” app The Score. The amazing app covers all basketball and March Madness as well as football, hockey, baseball, mixed martial arts, soccer, auto racing, golf, tennis, and lacrosse. Best of all, you can choose which news alerts to receive by sports type.

A year ago, we took clients to the Big East Tournament and had an absolute blast. We will never forget the experience of watching so many men in Madison Square Garden cry when Syracuse lost.  Now, we know why our men aren’t emotional enough. They use up all their emotional energy on their sports. Caramba– but we have to say that we are sad too that the Big East is going away. We can’t wait to see what other exciting events take its place!
