NBA Finals Make Great Family Fun!

Watching the NBA Finals as a family makes for a wonderful night at home. Just like their parents, our children are sports fanatics!  We make yummy treats and cuddle down on the sofa to watch the big games. Wasn’t game three wild?  We really thought that the Heat would just blow it all away but the Spurs were leading 2-1 going into Game 4.

Family at the Houston Rockets

While we prefer to watch games live like our fun night at the Houston Rockets above, tickets are not always an affordable option for a family of five. To economize, we search the internet for cost saving family events. Family promotions allowed us to have a blast at the NBA all-stars event in Houston earlier this year. The boys had a great time collecting autographs at the KIA booth.  We are looking forward to seeing more of the big guys strut their stuff live someday.

Game 4 Kept Us ON the Edge of Our Seats:

Game 4 hailed as another exciting game where every player gave 100% in the midst of funky fouls and pile ups. the ongoing commentary about the different players and who is BOSS by our teens made the game great family fun. Diaw had an amazing fast break to tie-up the game 49-49 at the end of 2nd quarter. In the third quarter, the superstars battled it out neck in neck. Unfortunately, in the 4th quarter the Heat pulled way ahead to win Game 4.

Watching As A Family Teaches Our Children Important Life Lessons:

The running monologue by our teens allowed us to study the character of the players. Our boys didn’t think too much of LeBron when he laughed over fouling other players in the 2nd Quarter.  However, we had the opportunity to discuss what a tremendous person Tim Duncan is. #21, Tim has been nothing but a true professional who works his tail off, and is the most consistent player in NBA history (Bleacher Report).   In comparison to LeBron who is arguably the best player on the planet right now – it is nice to focus on Tim as a model of hard work, consistency, and leadership in the community.

Tim is always in the right place at the right time, he defends without fouling, and he’s an excellent communicator (which is completely underrated). The fact that he’s never won defensive player of the year is criminal. In the third quarter of Game 4, the commentators praised Tim’s speech on helping out in the community and working together as a team. They even remarked how the Spurs have the winning formula since their best player knows how to take direction.

His leadership is truly inspiring with his starting a foundation SlamDuncan back in 2001.  The foundation funds nonprofit organizations in the areas of education, youth sports and recreation, and health awareness and research.  Tim Duncan’s story teaches our children that the nice guy does find success. That hard work, dedication and good sportsmanship does pay off is an important life lesson as well. Thanks to Tim and the NBA for creating teaching moments for our family. So is this the Spurs Final chance to win Tim Duncan a 5th title? He deserves it and we hope he doesn’t retire!

TIM DUNCAN’S FUNDAMENTAL BANK SHOT:

At the beginning of the series we rooted for the Miami Heat, but now that we have analyzed the Spurs —-we are going to remember the Alamo! Plus, LeBron has plenty of time to get another ring because he has at least another 6-7 years.
