Friends and Family Stand Up to Cancer #DoGood

Cancer impacts all of us at some point in our lifetime.  Growing up, I remember when a dear friend’s mom was diagnosed with breast cancer it was a death sentence. Now, most women survive but, cancer seems to be more rampant across our friends, family and work colleagues.  The older we get, the more we find cancer striking not only our friends, but unfortunately also their children.

We have learned so much from the extraordinary and triumphant battles of loved ones. Our dear friend Michele Howe Clark conquered rare head and neck cancer and is now inspiring thousands with her book Face Forward and its survivorship programming. Friends in our local community founded Sole Ryeders with the mission to raise hundreds of thousand of dollars for breast cancer research by forming teams for the Avon walk. The group even started a Wig Exchange for women in need. Having witnessed all these charities in action, our children now understand how important it is to be courageous when fighting cancer or other life adversities.

How We Can Help: Dig in and #DoGood

So when we found out that MasterCard partnered with Stand Up to Cancer to help find a cure, we jumped on the Dig in and #DoGood program. Stand Up to Cancer  (SU2C) is a groundbreaking initiative created to accelerate innovative cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. When you use your MasterCard® card to pay for a meal $10 or more between now and 9/28, MasterCard will make a donation, one precious cent at a time, to Stand Up To Cancer up to $4,000,000. We always support brands that give back to charity. With this economy, so many of us can’t donate as much to charity as we would like, so we are always happy to give back through our everyday purchases.

The Children Are Ready for the Family Dinner Out To Support Stand Up For Cancer

The night of our dinner, the children could barely contain their excitement. While the parents ordered the meal, they ran to the table so they could begin coloring a picture on the butcher paper table cloths about finding a cure for cancer.  The family dinner out to Stand Up To Cancer created the perfect teaching opportunity  to discuss important life lessons about how we feel when friends and family get sick and how we can help. Moreover, we emphasized how important it is to support charities that focus on medical research to benefit our community.

Love The Family Friendly Signage at Q #DoGood #MC

Q is such a family friendly restaurant. It is so nice that someone else reminded the children about the importance of washing their hands versus Mom’s broken record.  Our meal could not be more delicious. The children loved the chicken and grilled cheese while the adults enjoyed ribs and pulled pork.  The collard greens sautéed with bacon were tasty (basically anything with bacon is to die for!). We all gobbled the corn bread and biscuits with maple butter.

Q’s Menu Features Both Adult and Kid Favorites #DoGood

After putting on twenty pounds, we still had to have dessert. What more could you want than eating ice cream or banana pudding while supporting a  groundbreaking cause created to accelerate innovative cancer research?
