WWE Does the Flintstones

Our children are so excited about the great news that WWE and Warner Brothers have formed a partnership to create a new animated Flintstones movie to be released to direct-to-homevideo platforms in early 2015. John Cena, CM Punk, Vince McMahon all favorites from Wrestlemania will star.

The deal to co-produce a “Flintstones” film started with an on-going joke involving John Cena over the last several years. Given Cena’s decision to build a brand around wearing brightly colored T-shirts and hats, he was called “fruity pebbles” as an insult during a Wrestlemania and Monday Night Raw feud with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

WWE embraced the term and brokered an endorsement deal with Post Cereals that put Cena on boxes of Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles — even replacing Fred Flintstone .  Although we don’t allow our children to eat Fruity Pebbles because it makes them wired, they just love seeing their hero John Cena on the package promoting Wrestlemania.

WWE’s John Cena “Fruity Pebbles”

Why is John Cena, Wrestlemania Champion, their hero? It is plain and simple to a child. From the mouths of babes:

  • John Cena helps fight breast cancer and helped raise over a million dollars. This will help my friend’s mom
  • John Cena was bullied, too when he was a child but he was brave and this helped me handle  the mean boys at school
  • John Cena supports our brave men and women of the Armed Services. He is a good citizen and proud to be American

Given this feedback from our children, we will be the first to line up to view the new flick. We also know that with WWE, the movie will be terrific family fun at a reasonable cost. Also, we can’t wait to see the new Scooby Doo movie coming out next year before Wrestlemania 30. We know that by watching these movies with our kids, we get to relive our childhoods while making precious new memories.

“WWE is family-friendly entertainment, so partnering with Warner Bros. on a Flintstones-WWE project was a natural extension of our ‘Scooby-Doo’ deal,” said Michael Luisi, president, WWE Studios. “This new, animated feature allows us to showcase our brand with young fans and loyal Flintstones enthusiasts alike.”

Our tween son thinks one of these movies will be nominated for an Oscar as a great tee-up for Wrestlemania ~so look out Disney!
